SPID Consultation
19th of June, 2026
Ansdell & Fairhaven Parish Council are proposing to install three Speed Indicator Devices (SPIDs) within the parish. These would be permanent installations, which would indicate to passing vehicles their actual speed, and whether they are travelling within the speed limit of 30mph.
Since its formation in May 2025, the Parish Council has received consistent and strong feedback that residents wish to see steps taken to calm traffic in the parish. The three chosen locations have been highlighted as of particular concern.
For much of its time in existence, the Parish Council has been working with Lancashire County Council (LCC) and others towards the installation of the SPID devices. One of the last stages of LCC’s process is to conduct a consultation with residents within the vicinity of the proposed SPIDs.
For this purpose, a consultation document has now been published. Please see the link below. Details of the proposed locations, make and model, and how to respond to the consultation, can be found in the document. The closing date for receipt of comments is 5pm on Friday 10th July.
