Ansdell and Fairhaven Parish Council update on
Installation of Speed Indicator Poles & Devices.
After almost 12 months of meetings, consultations & detailed work, Ansdell and Fairhaven Parish Council is pleased to report progress in its efforts to address concerns regarding speeding within the community.
Residents have consistently raised concerns about traffic speeds on & around Woodlands Road, and the Parish Council has listened and taken appropriate action in response.
The Council has purchased three Speed Indicator Devices (SPIDs).
Two devices will be installed on Woodlands Road, and one device will be installed near Cypress Point.
The work carried out will be from LCC.
What is a SPID?
A Speed Indicator Device is an electronic roadside sign that detects the speed of an approaching vehicle and displays it to the driver. The purpose of the device is to provide an immediate reminder of the speed limit and to encourage drivers to reduce their speed where necessary.
In addition to their advisory function, the devices also collect traffic data. This will assist the Council in developing a clearer understanding of vehicle speeds and traffic patterns at different times and on different days. The data will provide an evidence base to support future decision making and will help to identify where and when issues are occurring.
Once the devices are operational, the data will be reviewed on a regular basis. Should the information indicate that further action or additional traffic calming measures are required, the Council will use this evidence to support discussions with the relevant highways authorities at LCC.
The Parish Council is pleased to see this project progressing in response to residents’ concerns.
The poles have started to be installed & the new Speed Indicator Devices will be installed in Ansdell in the upcoming weeks.
The Council’s objective remains to reduce vehicle speeds, improve road safety, and support a safer environment for residents and local businesses.
